About AuScope Portal
AuScope Portal is a website that acts as gateway providing a single access point to discover and access multiple, distributed across the Internet, Geospatial Services. The portal is able to construct valid requests to service providers registered with portal’s catalog service and implementing WFS or WMS OpenGIS Web Feature Service Specification.

“Feature Layers” allow a user to retrieve geospatial data encoded in Geographic Markup Language (GML) from multiple Web Feature Services. National Virtual Core Library and Earth Resource Mineral Occurrence listed on the screen shot are just two examples of WFS features accessible through the portal.

“Map Layers” provide access to maps rendered by WMS map servers on the Internet. These returned images (pictures) can be viewed in transparency mode, thus allowing for example, the display of Broad-Band Seismic Recorders on top of a satellite image.
